In traditional Chinese funerals, it is customary for relatives and friends to provide monetary donations (帛金) to the grieving family as a gesture of support. In past generations, these funds were often sufficient to cover funeral expenses, reflecting a common provision for the family. This practice has continued into modern times, with monetary gifts still commonly offered as a form of condolence. Traditionally, all collected donations are used to fund the funeral services.
However, it has become increasingly common for families to donate all the received money to a designated charity in the name of their departed loved one. This act of giving is not only seen as a way to help others but is also believed to generate good karma according to Chinese traditional beliefs.
